Just in: Nigeria federal government Has Given condition to Lift the indefinite suspension of Twitter micro-blogging site

Twitter operations will be restored in Nigeria only if the platform can be used “responsibly”- Minister Oyeama

Nigeria Minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama announced the condition on Monday, 7th June 2021 when they met with some Ambassadors.

The Ambassadors of the U.S., UK, EU, Canada as well as Ireland were concerned, even after Twitter was suspended on Friday.

Twitter operations in Nigeria will be restored only if it would be used "responsibly."

Onyeama said there is no definite timeline for that, but added:

"The condition would be on a responsible use of the social media and that has to be it.”

"We are not saying that Twitter is  threatening this country or any such thing:

"The reason for the measure is to stop people from using platforms for indecent acts and, engaging criminality or encouraging criminality" Onyeama vented.

These were his responses on one of the sessions of interrogation about when the ban will be lifted, while having a meeting with some envoys.

Moreover, there is no definite timeline to reinstate Twitter, according to him. Meanwhile, the US had insisted that free access to social media is important but at the same, they are happy over the positive acknowledgment regarding the incidence.

  1. There is so much to be done in Nigeria aside this. This may not be necessary at the moment.
