A culprit by name, Sylvester Emmanuel Ime, has been disposed to severe sentenced to death by hanging through noose by the neck on the 31st July 2021, alleged for armed robbery.
The verdict was passed by an Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo by Justice Okon Okon, the judge in charge, who confirmed yesterday that he was found guilty of the crime.
The court held that the convict, in the company of five, who are yet to be apprehended, assaulted security men at the premises of Dam Dave Company in Uyo, the state capital, and carted off with two Mack trucks worth N7 million.
He said that he could at this point not stay quiet on the vexed pattern in Akwa Ibom, where armed robbery, seizing, child kidnapping, and different violations are planned with external impacts.
“I can no longer hold my peace on the vexed trend in Akwa Ibom, where armed robbery, kidnapping, child stealing, and other crimes are masterminded with external influences.
“Most of the crimes taking place in Akwa Ibom in contemporary times were unheard of in the state, as the people of Akwa Ibom considered it an anathema to be linked with such crimes”.
"The majority of the wrongdoings occurring in Akwa Ibom in contemporary occasions were incomprehensible in the state, as individuals of Akwa Ibom thought of it as utter horror to be connected with such violations."
Meanwhile, the court had commended the state's Prosecution Counsel, Barr. Esther Etim, for her investment and ingenuity, all through the period the state has exhibited the case beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The crime fellow in his confession corner declaration told the court that he was reached through a call by one Nonso, from Aba in Abia State to inform him with security information about the connection, which incited the accomplishment of the burglary action.
The convict, a father of one and an indigene of Ekit Itam in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State recorded people from the gathering to join one Eze, Auchi, and Chibuzor, all from Abia State.
