It would be so weird as a Nigerian to put off or feel disconcerted about cassava flakes, popularly known as Garri by Nigerians. Garri has been the most common and available food in Nigeria for decades and as a matter of fact before 1960. It's a food eaten by both the rich and the poor, as it is said to have been saving lives for ages. It turns out to be the most easiest and fast foods in Nigeria; it could be prepared with hot water and taken with a soup, but it is more commonly prepared with cold water and drunk with any of the following; sugar, groundnut, coconut, roasted meat or fish, biscuit, suya, kulikuli among others.
Poor metabolic health
They use to say "you are what you eat". Really resounds well and meaningful at this point. Aside from me who else would believe that it's true that carbohydrates are the main/primary source of energy to the human body? Then at the same time excessive intake of carbohydrates could result to poor metabolism among other things. Continuous intake of Garri and sugar leads to excessive intake of carbohydrates, thereby causing poor metabolic health believe me or not.
Cause Of Diabetes
Our liver is responsible for converting carbohydrate to sugar. That means, the have to be taken care when we don't maintain good and proper dieting. Diabetes takes place when the liver has been overworked. Lack of insulin results to excessive glucose in the blood which is abnormal, and what causes this inability to produce insulin is excess starch/carbohydrates. Beware friends!
Addiction
It is said that too much of everything is bad. If this is true, then it's relative that continuous intake of Garri and sugar is hazardous to health. The continuous intake could also lead to addiction, which is as worse than those already highlighted causual effect because it is habitual effect that results the consequences. It difficult to give up the habit especially in most under developed west African countries like Nigeria.
