No doubt, there have been unrest which has deprived the peace and tranquility of this country for a while now. It has been a state of storminess emanating from the disturbing brigands otherwise called Bandits. Wanton killings, abducting, raping and destroying properties most especially in the North aside many part of the country. Unlike the past, kidnapping of students was not uncontrolled relating it to the now but it's unrestrained and violent; similar happenings of all times that leads to the other on no-account and it is becoming our new normal. The bandits attacks have been acute, penetrating so many crimes for a long time. However, just like the popular adage goes ‘there is a time for everything’, a vigilante group detected the den, a snug hideout of some bandits who kept some people hostage and demanded for ransom from their families.
Remember a previous story or similar where bandits raided Gulu town and some places few days ago, and destroyed properties and abducted several persons over 70 and vanished? They kept them as hostages while some were wiped off and very few were demanded for ransom, where words were sent to their family and authorities for cooperation on their terms and conditions.
According to story, the bandits gave them a specific location where they should drop the money and the victims’ relatives would follow instructions so as to get their families back without being hurt or harmed or even killed as the case was on failure to succumb. Of course it was an unrealistic and unreliable situation since there was a false play as the bandits would fail to stand by their word.
On a fateful Sunday, The vigilante group took the battle to their domain. They displayed some form of bravery and quickly mobilized themselves when a victim, who escaped from the bandits, disclosed their where about was and eventually lead them to the hideouts in order to attack them unaware.
Report has it that at least 9 of the assailants died from gunshots while seven of them were apprehended and handed over to the Police Special Task Force- Operation Zuma in Ebbo where they would be prosecuted together with some legal action.
This is indeed a good work worthy of commendation by the Vigilante for the single selfless act of bringing injustice subject to legislation that governs human right.
